Laila's Legacy Animal Rescue

#15 in United States, #1 in District of Columbia, #1 in Washington

Laila's Legacy was founded with a mission to ensure dogs impacted by breed bias and behavioral or physical challenges have a chance at a better life. Laila, our name sake, was an incredible dog who had a behavioral challenge that caused aggression towards dogs. Laila loved her humans, and especially our Co-Founder, Ashe. She was a large bully breed so her size combined with local breed bias meant sometimes people were afraid of her. But that didn't stop her from winning people over with her goofy energy. The rescue she was with did not have the resources to support Laila and couldn't find a suitable partner to take on her care because of her size and breed. As a result she was euthanized. Laila's Legacy was founded to save dogs like Laila. We never want a dog to be euthanized because an owner, a volunteer, or an organization didn't have the resources or because breed bias stopped them from getting the help they deserved. Dogs like Laila deserve a chance at life and that's what we're here to do!

I adopted my first rescue from SHDR over 9 years ago. I was as so impressed with their thoroughness in making sure I was the best fit for Finn that I have been working with them ever since as a transporter and foster. I am constantly amazed at this rescue group’s commitment and love for the animals they help. They have the biggest heart. I have witnessed them taking in some unbelievable and unbearable cases, only to turn out a healed, loving Doberman. They do whatever it takes to help each soul they encounter. There is just not enough good words to describe this group.

Founded in 2015, SHDR has committed to the rescue, rehabilitation, and placement of abused, abandoned, and/or neglected Dobermans. It is SHDR's personal mission to assist these magnificent breeds in any way we can. We are dedicated to educating the public as well as future Doberman owners about these majestic, often misunderstood breeds. They are often portrayed as aggressive dogs who will attack at a moment's notice when in fact they are Velcro dogs who are loyal, protective, and want to please their family! A Doberman wants nothing more than to be by your side and on your couch. All SHDR rescues are up to date on their shots, HW tested, microchipped, and spayed or neutered prior to adoption. Some come into rescue injured or abused and it may take a little longer to ready them for a forever home.

The ladies of island of misfits have poured their heart and soul into each and every critter that has come into their homes. These women do not have a facility and instead have opened their own homes to foster these babies. It’s exhausting work, that is definitely not for the weak, but they have always pushed on and made it work. Anyone that keeps up with them can admire the hard work they put in daily, I know I sure do. They deserve the world for the countless lives they’ve saved through adoption and through their spay/neuter program. They are very thorough in the adoption process and make sure to educate when needed, because they want to get it right. They are the best!

With a focus on community partnerships, this forward-facing approach works to ensure safe and healthy environments for people and pets. The department promotes responsible pet ownership, implements programs to reduce animal overpopulation, and has formed innovative partnerships and programs to increase the City's effectiveness in supporting animals and humans in Mobile. As part of this approach, a newly modernized Animal Services facility is currently in design and will be built in a new location central to all parts of the City, and many new positions are also being added to further our mission and programs. Juneau Animal Rescue is a private, non-profit shelter, located in Juneau, Alaska. Our shelter was founded in 1963 by members of our community who collaborated to help disadvantaged and homeless animals. We are proud to have served domestic animals in Juneau and its outlying communities for 60 years. Although we are also contracted to perform Animal Control and Protection Services by the City and Borough of Juneau, we are not a government entity. We continue to rely heavily on the generous contributions from the public in order to sustain our honored tradition of serving animals in need in our community. It is through these contributions that Juneau Animal Rescue has been able to endure and care for animals in need successfully throughout its many years. Our animal shelter began as a small shed under the bridge over Gastineau Channel. While we will always be proud of those humble beginnings, our new name and logo more accurately convey the community spirit of the organization that has served Juneau’s animal population since 1963. In January 2019 we changed our name to Juneau Animal Rescue, hoping to strengthen awareness of our organization and expand our public outreach. We are continually grateful for the generous support of the community and look forward to the next 50 plus years of service as Juneau Animal Rescue.

I’ve been a volunteer at Almost There for 2 years and am also an adoptee. I’ve never seen a rescue go to such great lengths to save dogs the way Almost There does. I’ve seen multiple adult dogs come off the street and almost there will get them personality trainers to work for them sometimes for years so that they can become adoptable dogs. So many dogs that would be euthanized are able to find a new fulfilling life because of Almost There. My dog river was dropped off at the front door of almost there at 5 weeks old after being found in a park. Even though the rescue had no open kennels they took him in, got him seen by a vet and reached out to me to be a foster parent all within an hour. This was my first foster experience and almost there provided me everything I needed, including the cell number of a worker that answered my questions day and night. Who knows what would’ve happened to my little guy if they didn’t jump in and rescue him. I cannot possibly say enough good things about this rescue. They are beyond deserving of the recognition.

My name is Geri Hormel and I am the founder of Almost There Rescue. What do we do at ATR? We save bitches. No, we don't go around seeking out malicious, unpleasant women and try to convince them to change their ways (although someone should!). We save dogs. Specifically, homeless, pregnant, large-breed dogs. We scoop those gals up from less than ideal situations and give them a place to birth and raise their pups. We work our tails off to give our pups the medical help, enrichment, socialization, and love that they need on their journeys to finding forever homes.

Working in conjunction with various clinics, Last Chance AR travels statewide to urban and rural communities to provide comfort, safety, and love to animals in need. Hundreds of lives have been saved through our efforts, which include a spay and neuter program for impoverished pet owners, frequent visits to rescue animals from shelters suffering from a desperate lack of funding, and the complete inability for any of our patient and dedicated volunteers to turn down a creature in need. We serve as a resource to our community and local pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training and good nutrition. We work with committed volunteers, veterinarians, fosters, and trainers to provide health care and temporary homes to animals deserving of another chance. Our number one priority is ensuring the health of all of our dogs and carefully screening and well matching ‚furever homes.

Summit Dog Rescue should be named Summit Superhero Dog Rescue. They are a very small, lean rescue with super-dedicated volunteers. I don't know how they manage to save the dogs that they rescue, each situation is so complex and often down to the wire at a shelter that has the dog scheduled to be euthanized. After Summit rescues these dogs, they provide safe and reliable transport, incredibly loving foster homes, and the best resources from nutrition to behavioral specialists. The sheer amount of time and energy that goes into keeping the rescue going is a testament to their dedication. We adopted our dog through Summit and were so impressed with the process and support provided. From a thorough application to reference checks to a home check to followup support, they were amazing. They really work to match dogs with the right families and to educating adopters around all things related to bringing a dog into your family. They work using positive reinforcement and keep up with all the latest research around training, nutrition, and behavior. Summit probably has a volunteer staff of about 6 people, but they somehow make it seem like they have 3 times that. This alone tells you how dedicated & tireless they are - and how deserving they are of more support!

    Laila's Legacy Animal Rescue

Golden Retrievers, regardless of medical needs or age, will receive comprehensive evaluation, spay/neutering services, veterinary care, behavioral training if required, and safe passage into a permanent loving home. Whether it’s donating money, supporting a fundraiser, or volunteering at events, I do my best because I know all the good they’re doing. They even offer free classes and support to our community which is amazing considering that you usually have to pay for these kinds of resources. All the videos I see that they post just show how they truly want the best for the dogs. They receive so much care and attention and I love seeing the dogs grow and develop to make them even more adoptable. This rescue truly does amazing work and my community is so lucky to have them. I know many people, including myself, have benefited from this rescue in one way or another and I am forever grateful for all the staff and volunteers at Meridian Canine Rescue.

I have been a volunteer here for a little over a year. I am so impressed with the level of care and concern this organization puts to making sure each dog is carefully tended to - getting the right medical attention and treatment and making sure the adoption process is thorough and that the final pick ends up as the forever home and family. I feel proud of the work done here and getting to be part of all of it. It's a lot easier than I expected it would be to help with the care of the dogs. Of course I love every single one but I am so glad to get to be a small part of making sure they find their forever family. Getting to see the process and the happy endings makes the work worthwhile.

Bluegrass Bully Rescue truly cares about saving all the dogs. I mean they are even a “Bully” rescue and pull other breeds from shelters, they don’t discriminate! I’ve never seen two such determined people (Leah and Jeanna) devote everything they have to this rescue. Every dog we have had came with everything the dog has needed and more, with follow ups on how the dog is doing. From setting up events to making sure the storage is full for fosters to grab supplies they go above and beyond. I have worked with some other rescues around and they have it all put together. Love this rescue!

The Tier Haven family is comprised of volunteers, adopters, and donors who have a passionate love for these working breeds and all of their quirks. We are brought together by the dogs that steal our hearts while chewing the shoe collection. Tier Haven Rescue, Inc was originally incorporated in 1996 under the name ARK Project, Inc and is a long standing member of the animal rescue community in Kentucky. Originally an all-breed rescue Tier Haven shifted to focus on working dogs with the rise of breed specific legislation which was leading to larger numbers of German Shepherds, and other working dogs, being euthanized. We are rooted in Kentucky with a strong passion for enacting change within the state which has a long journey towards building our animal welfare laws. Even as breed specific legislation has dwindled there are still large numbers of working dogs finding themselves at risk of euthanasia due to a lack of breed knowledge and/or training. Tier Haven is committed to giving these dogs a second chance and we are all honored to be part of their paths to a better life.

Three Times the Love, Thanks to Rescue Charlie's Friends! I always knew I wanted to open my heart and home to dogs in need, but I never imagined the incredible journey that awaited me at Rescue Charlie's Friends. It wasn't just one furry friend I found there, but three! From the moment I walked in, the love for these dogs was palpable. The staff was incredibly helpful, patiently guiding me through the adoption process and ensuring the perfect match for all of us. Adopting from Rescue Charlie's Friends wasn't just about gaining three amazing dogs; it was about giving them a second chance at a happy life. Seeing them blossom in their forever home, full of love and joy, is the most rewarding experience. If you're looking to add a furry companion to your life, I can't recommend Rescue Charlie's Friends enough. They have a heart of gold and a passion for finding loving homes for dogs in need. You might just walk in looking for one dog, but you might leave with three times the love, just like me!

    Rescue Charlie's Friends

Rescue Charlie's Friends was established in 2018 because we love dogs and want them to have the best life possible. Many dogs lost their homes due to fire, floods or hurricanes. Others have been abandoned, neglected or abused. Whatever the cause, our mission is to rescue them and match them with a loving forever family. Most of our dogs come from high-kill shelters. The shelters do the best they can but due to limited facilities, dogs can't stay long. Dogs must be moved out quickly or be put down. These are Charlie's Friends. These are the dogs that we focus on. We stay in touch with shelters and volunteers in Texas, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and elsewhere. We bring the dogs to Maine where Fosters care for them until they are adopted. We rescue as many dogs as we can but we always need more help.

I applied to foster Sadie in July 2017 through Key to Lion’s Heart and it took me no more than a couple hours with her to realize she was going to be a part of my family permanently. Since that time my mom has adopted two dogs from them and I have adopted another dog, bringing our family total to 4 dogs from KTLH. We couldn’t be happier with our decision to adopt from KTLH and the Facebook group of support you receive afterwards is invaluable.

    Key to lions heart rescue

Key to Lion's Heart Rescue was founded in January 2018 in honor of Lion, a dog who made a tremendous impact on so many lives. Lion was dumped at a very high kill shelter where his time was up. Without knowing his past, he was pulled by a rescue and placed into a home. Lion was then moved nine times over the course of one year in an effort to find the right home. Unfortunately, the second to last move was that one that forever changed his soul. Just like people, dogs have a breaking point, and Lion had reached his. He had been through more in one year than any dog should ever have to go through in a lifetime. His last move was to a home where he was loved and cared for by a handful of people, his advocates for many months. Unfortunately, it was too late. The pain and suffering he had endured in some of his previous places was more than Lion could overcome. The light in his eyes was gone and he was suffering. In the arms of the people who loved him dearly, we whispered our goodbyes and told him how much we loved him. Humans had failed him. As we kissed him goodbye, we promised Lion that we would do our best to ensure no dog would ever have to endure what he had in his last year. At that moment, we dedicated ourselves to unlocking hope for all dogs by giving a little piece of our hearts to every single one that we can save.

Gal’s Best Pals does their absolute best to stem the epidemic of puppies and unwanted dogs by partnering with southern rescue orgs to transport dogs to New England where there is a better chance of adoption. I have followed them on social media, and have admired their work ethic for a very long time. I have now fostered two dogs through their program, and can only say the best of things.

Last Hope K9 Rescue is an incredible fully volunteer run organization. They bring up 20 dogs a week, 50 weeks a year from high kill shelters in Arkansas. The love, attention, and medical service they give their dogs is incredible. They ensure they are going to the right home with the best chance for success. We adopted our dog 10 years ago and remain impressed with the care and dedication of the rescue.

LHK9 is a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit all-breed dog rescue based in Massachusetts. We are dedicated to saving abandoned, neglected, and abused dogs from high-kill shelters in Central Arkansas and beyond. Though our rescue efforts are focused in the Central Arkansas area, we also serve as a resource for local dog surrenders, shelters, and special rescue efforts in other areas. We don't discriminate on the basis of age, pre-existing medical conditions, or breed, because every dog deserves to know love. As the literal ‚'last hope' of the dogs we serve, our southern fosters pull dogs and puppies from partner shelters in Arkansas. While in foster, each dog receives love, care, and medical treatment, then receives a health clearance and transports to New England. After a mandatory 48-hour quarantine stay and an additional health clearance, each dog is picked up and fostered by a northern foster family who serves as a gateway to his/her adoptive home, affectionately known as a FURever home.

A Rejoyceful Animal Rescue is and has been an amazing place for less fortunate animals or animals that have seen evil at the hands of bad humans. I have been a volunteer at ARAR now for over 4 years. Here at ARAR, we see our shelter as a safe transition point for many animals in need. Our goal is to keep animals in our shelter for the least amount of time possible. It is just a place for them to crash before their next step into a foster or adoptive home. Currently, we have about 30 cats and 10 dogs in our shelter. We do our best to make the animal's time here the best it can be. When they are in their kennels we play calming doggie music and they get enrichment actives. As we do not have a fenced in yard area outside, on nice days we schedule SniffSpots for our shelter residents! It is a great way that they can explore a new space and get some energy out.

On Christmas Eve day, I saw a bonded pair on Facebook that were in a Texas shelter and who were to be euthanized the next day. One being a Berner mix and the other a French Mastiff. I spent 8 hours on the phone, emailing, texting rescues trying to find someone to tag/save this pair until I could get to them. It felt like lost hope until I left a voicemail for April. I thought it was a long shot but I had to keep trying! April called me back soon after! I told her what I needed, she immediately starred working on saving these boys! Taking time out of her holiday with family! After alot of trying I found my miracle worker! Through her network she was able to save them! She handled getting them out into a foster home until transport could be arranged! They are the best pair! As I follow their Facebook page, They have an amazing network of volunteers! They are so deserving and dedicated! It was a Christmas miracle!

Rescues are frequent. Re-homings are more frequent. Re-homings differ from rescues in the fact that we will have a history of the dog and its need. Puppies don't normally need to be placed until they get bigger than the owner had intended and therefore are not as common in rescue. Please keep in mind that most ‚rescue/rehome dogs, are placed because of behavioral problems, most, but not all. Many of the dog's issues were due to lack of training and socialization. Most problems can be addressed and corrected in a stable and loving home. If you really want a Berner, do tons of research. Our advice is to attend shows, join a BMD club and research breeders. If you would like to be considered for a rescue or re-homing, please read our policy's on the Adopting page. The mission of the HMBMD Rescue program is to take in dogs of Bernese Mountain Dog parentage that are in shelters, surrendered by their owners, or that have become lost and abandoned, and to place them in permanent pet homes in order to help provide a safe harbor that they might otherwise be destroyed or abandoned.

I've volunteered at Warrior Dog several times. They have an excellent fenced-in area for the dogs in their care to run and play and get to meet potential fur-ever families. They foster small puppies to large, adult dogs. They rely mostly on volunteers for their services, but they do have a dedicated paid staff to fill in roles when there aren't enough volunteers available for something.

Warrior Dog rescue is a non-profit organization based in Savage, MN that is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and finding adoptive homes for dogs that have been abandoned, abused, or neglected. We are celebrating our 6th year in rescue and have saved over 3,400 dogs to date. When we reflect on that number we think that each one of those dogs had a foster hero that YES to saving them! We think about all the visits to the vet, the training, the full food bowls, walks, belly rubs, and all the healing that was given to each of them through the love and safety we were able to provide. Knowing that we were able to help them heal and be ready to love their forever family is a blessing beyond compare. Our storybook is filled with all the Warrior Dogs who have come into our lives and forever imprinted on our hearts. The Warrior Dog family continues to save these sweet souls because they all deserve to the know the gift of love and safety. There is still work to be done and by the grace and selflessness of our volunteer and foster teams, along with our generous donors we will continue. There are so many pups even as you read this that are alone and sick, abandoned in kill shelters and on roadsides, living a life filled with fear and abuse. We are steadfast in our commitment to continue to make a difference, one dog at a time.

I volunteered at Stray Rescue when I lived in St. Louis for a year. Every day, I was there volunteering alongside the caregivers. Now, living back in Indiana, I still volunteer when I go back to visit. I have seen first hand, behind the scenes, the great work they do. They take the dogs who have been shot, left, forgotten, neglected, the list goes on. They keep dogs for as long as they need a space because of the amazing volunteers they have through their Rehabilitation Enrichment Program who take each dog, even if not the most social on long walks, car rides, park visits - wherever the dog will be most comfortable for extended time out of the shelter. They have countless fosters but as with any rescue, can always use more. The dogs are the number one focus and the staff is amazing. My only downside is they’re in St. Louis and I’m not as close by any more. However, I’m still very connected and admire all the work they do. They are working on a new, larger facility to not just continue the good they do but increase their capacity. I love Stray Rescue. They are my family.

    Stray Rescue of St. Louis

What sets Stray Rescue of St. Louis apart in the animal welfare community near and far? We seek out and take in those who no other organization will help or would simply euthanize because they are too expensive to heal. We take the abandoned, beaten, bred, fought, injured, terrified, defeated and betrayed. We see beyond their brokenness and are here to pick up the pieces to make these special animals whole again. We see the individual and know that there's no one size fits all treatment plan. The minute they enter our doors, we look in their eyes and promise them ALL the second chance they deserve for health, home, commitment and love. Because these animals come in with a story that would give us all nightmares, it takes them longer to open up, trust and believe in humankind again. But with patience and time always on their unique schedule we see the light shine in their eyes again. Animals have an amazing ability to forgive which never ceases to amaze us.

    Humane Society of Western Montana

The Humane Society of Western Montana was incorporated in 1963 as the Missoula Humane Society. At that time, our community had a considerable overpopulation of pets. So much so that thousands came through our doors and difficult decisions were made. Fast forward to the present and there is much to celebrate. Our community embraced spay/neuter programs and as a result, the sheer volume of pets coming through our doors for rehoming dropped from over 8,000 to approximately 1,400. HSWM is grateful for the work of all our volunteers and staff over the years. We wish our work was done. However, in many ways it is just beginning. When we consider pet welfare across the state, there are many areas where spay/neuter has simply been an unavailable and unaffordable service. There are communities where pet populations are at unsustainable levels and dogs and cats go hungry. People and pets in those areas need our help. And, as costs rise, many here in Missoula are now finding they cannot afford care. This is why we offer free vaccine clinics, low cost spay neuter services and travel long distances to provide care to underserved clients and pets. Through our programs, which include a robust foster care system, food pantry, behavior hotline and veterinary care, we serve more animals outside the shelter than within our walls. And we are growing.

    Dog Town Canine Rescue

Since 2003. Dog Town Rescue has focused on saving dogs from the absolute worst situations. Dogs abandoned by humans, dogs coming from survival situations fending for themselves in the desert, and feral dogs living on the fringes of civilization. Many of the dogs we have saved needed to be caught in a humane trap in order to safely bring them to our shelter. The dogs we rescue are not vaccinated. We have taken in dozens of dying puppies with Parvo. They are not fixed, which is a huge contributor to unwanted and neglected dogs. They are not fed properly, so most are full of tapeworms from eating rabbits and roadkill. Loose dogs get into fights, hit by cars, have untreated injuries with infections. We've rescued dogs with buckshot and/or .22 bullets in them that our vet removed while they were being spayed/neutered. We also serve our local Indigenous communities by providing free of charge dog spay/neuters for Tribal members. Most of our neighboring Colonies and Reservations are located in remote areas, and have little to no animal services. City and County animal control are jurisdictionally limited as to what they can provide, but as a non-governmental organization, Dog Town goes where the need is.

We believe in making a difference one dog at a time and being the voice for the voiceless. Retriever Rescue Las Vegas Dog RescueWe started this Rescue because we are aware of outrageous abuse happening in some overseas countries and cases we saw crushed our hearts. It made us think hard of what we can do to make a difference, even if it's one dog at a time. After volunteering throughout Las Vegas we wanted to not have to say no to non-purebred dogs and we didn't want to base our rescue on votes. We just want to save as many of the loving fury faces as we can and make a difference in the furbabies life furever.

I volunteered with the amazing Mary’s Dogs team for about 7 years before adopting my pup. I’ve always been impressed with the care and dedication this team brings to the dogs they rescue from partnering and supporting southern rescue partners to finding and working with potential adopters to following up with pet parents following adoption. Checking in after adoption is so important to ensure proper placement and if it doesn’t work out Mary’s Dogs steps up and takes the dog back, as they did with my dog, knowing that returned dogs are harder to place. The Mary’s Dogs team rallied around this dog to help him feel safe and comfortable, ensured vet care was provided and worked with a certified fear free dog behaviorist to ensure the dog had the best chance of finding his forever home. Their consistent love and dedication to all the dogs they rescue is why I recommend them to anyone looking for a rescue dog to add to the family.

Our community is extremely grateful for the supportive network that embraces us. Thank you to our partners in the south, our team, and all our adoptive families for being‚ the Hero in a dog's life. Why adopt a Mary's Dog? All dogs deserve a chance to find a loving and caring home. Many are abandoned or neglected or never given the chance of a good life. As soon as our dogs are in the care of our southern partners, they are treated as family members while awaiting transport to New Hampshire. Our professional team begins caring for the dogs as soon as they arrive at our state-licensed facility to ensure the dogs successfully transition into forever homes. We provide specialty collars and leashes, yummy treats, toys and even homemade chicken stew. The dogs are examined by our veterinarian and then microchipped. Once they are granted a NH Health Certificate and observed by our dog savvy rescue team, they are ready to be loved by you! We know our dogs. It's important you find the right dog for you and your family. We want all our adoptions to be successful and are available to answer your questions before and after you've brought your dog home. There are an estimated 500,000 stray dogs in Puerto Rico, a US Commonwealth about the size of Connecticut. Back in October of 2018 four team members went to the island to see if they could help. Throughout the week, the team saved over 30 dogs. Within the next 8 months, the team visited the island 3 more times and continued to save another 50 Satos and placed them in loving homes. They volunteered at The Spayathon for Puerto Rico, doing everything they could to make a difference, but it still was not enough. This is when Save the Satos was formed. We have made it our life's mission to not stop until we make a difference in the stray population on this beautiful little island.

I’ve been volunteering at Sammy’s Hope for about 5 years now. I also currently work at the MCSPCA. In the years of volunteering at Sammy’s Hope I’ve seen the rescue go above and beyond for every single dog. Euthanasia is the absolute last resort, unlike other shelters. They go out of their way to send dogs to training academy’s, hire specialized trainers for evaluations and training sessions, even provide foster hospice for those animals who do not have much time left. Aside from giving every animal the best chance at life and never giving up on them, the system they have is also amazing. With two three hour shifts, the animals are given a very generous amount of time outside of their kennels. This is huge especially for the dogs, relieving anxiety and stress, which later results in less euthanizations. I really cannot say enough good things about this shelter. They also have a high adoption rate and very low return rate, which allows the rescue to save even more lives.

    New Mexico Boston Terrier Rescue

We are a small non-profit organization passionate about helping rescue, protect, and place Boston's in loving homes across New Mexico. Milagro Boston Terrier Rescue (MBTR) began in 1999 with an elderly Boston Terrier named Mr. Buggs. His owner had passed and left Mr. Buggs an orphan. Mr. Buggs was a dancer who loved to prance about everything. Rescue of Boston Terriers in New Mexico was being done by Nancy Gage of Los Lunas and Dyl Osborne of Abiquiu. Both had decided it was time for them to look for help with the Bostons and they came to me. My Grandmother, Rev. Mable E. Dawe ( 1904-2006) was born in McIntosh near Estancia. While living in Gallup in the 1930's, she developed and affection for Boston Terriers, then called Boston Bulls. Her two favorites, Dempsey and Beans, were featured in stories she shared through the years. It was and continues to be my homage to Nana that is my inspiration in 1999 and continues today. When you have a rescue, it's essential to have a 501c3 to raise money for the dogs. My Corrales neighbor, Joyce Fay, operated Bro & Tracy Animal Welfare in Corrales. MBTR worked as a separate entity under Bro & Tracy until 2014 when MBTR was approved as a 501c3. Milagro Vineyards and Winery is our business in Corrales. We started growing grapes in 1985 and began using the name Milagro, miracle in Spanish, to convey the Divine intervention needed to grow grapes in the fickle climate of New Mexico. The Boston Terrier rescue has always operated in tandem with the vineyards and winery, so, using the same name worked on many levels. The work of the rescue is only successful with the same Divine intervention relied on to grow the grapes. It is our core value and reason for success.

We adopted our beautiful black labrador mix, Cleo from A Good Dog Rescue in 2022. They did such a wonderful job training her so we didn't have to do much. She was potty trained and crate trained. We just had to do some basic training with her to teach her to sit, stay and leave it. She won our hearts and my daughter and son can't imagine life without her. Later the rescue provided support to get Cleo spayed for just $200 while our regular Vet was charging us $800-$1000. This financial assistance really makes it affordable to care for a dog and provide them with financial care where needed like for regular check ups and meds when she is ill. When considering to adopt a dog, our family always wanted a small dog. However, we noticed it was rare when shelters get small dogs and there was no way my family would pay hundreds of dollars for a special breed dog. And then when my family met Cleo. Her size didn't matter. However, my daughter really wanted a small dog and through our rescue they came upon a special breed mini goldendoodle that was being given up and the rescue introduced her to all adoptees. We immediate showed interest and when we met her we loved her. She had not been trained yet because she had not been in the care of the rescue so we all took part in her training. And having big sister Cleo around really helped to show her the ways of things too. We couldn't be happier with both our dogs and we are so grateful to A Good Dog Rescue for bringing our Cleo and Coco into our lives. We are aware of their continued struggles with the rescues they receive and we try to support them as best we can. They really do care for rescues and really do want them to have the best care and best families. I can't imagine another rescue that deserves financial support and that will put it to it's best use for their dogs.

From what to do with problematic behaviors to what to do for lose stool the team is there to help day and night, I usually get a response in 15 minutes. I think the scariest thing about being a foster is letting your baby go, you want to make sure they’re going to the right family who will love them as much as you. I have loved every family who has adopted my fosters. The team truly does a great job vetting adopters and makes sure the dog is going to the perfect home. I have rescued two different dogs from one of a kind. The first was my beloved beagle. She was about 4 when I adopted her and made it until she was 18. This past June we rescued a wonderful standard poodle! One of a Kind always put the animals welfare first. There are so many dogs and cats that have been saved because of the wonderful work they do. Rescue is not easy, I’m sure of it, however, they continue to put the animals first day after day. The amount of community support they have garnered should speak for itself. This organization does tremendous work for animals, not just in Ohio. I have been a supporter for many years and plan to continue to support them. So many animals would have no future if not for them.

We are a no-time-limit shelter, and no adoptable animal is euthanized. Many of our animals come from Animal Control Facilities (the pound) just prior to their scheduled euthanasia. Sick or injured animals brought to us by Good Samaritans are often given priority. Owner surrenders and strays are accepted when space is available.

This is a fantastic place to adopt. They are caring do all that is humanly possible for the animals which is mainly dogs. They come and go all hours rescuing from the street, bad homes, puppy mills, etc. I adopted my Izzy there over a year ago. She had been vetted, spayed and was up to date on all shots and heartworm meds. Cabin Critters continues to be a support and is there for me and Izzy over a year later. Would definitely adopt there again and highly recommend other adopt their furry friends there.

    B-squad Dog Rescue

Our first transport was in November of 2014 after the death of Jayla Rodriguez. Dogs were being rounded up with a horse trailer to be disposed of, so many rescue groups got involved to help save as many of the gentle dogs as possible. We loaded our suburban to head to Hot Springs, SD to pick up a load of puppies from KC Willis of LightShine Canine. When we arrived we were nothing short of a hot mess, missing many of the necessary supplies, not quite sure how best to assemble kennels, and fumbling around with the dogs as we loaded them for their ride to safety. I remember feeling discouraged like I had no business in the rescue transport world. I apologized to KC saying that they sent the B-Squad to work with her today. She turned to us and said that the dogs didn't care that we weren't the most organized transport in the world. What mattered was that we were there, doing what we could to help get them to safety. The name B-Squad stuck, and we've transported well over 9,000 dogs to safety since that time. B-Squad Dog Rescue is 100% volunteer-driven. All of our volunteers have full-time jobs, we are hockey moms, photographers, dance moms, professionals, students, etc. We all have busy schedules, but find time to do what we can to help make a difference in the lives of others. B-Squad's motto is you don't have to be perfect to start making a difference today! We aren't professionals‚ we aren't the A-Squad‚ we are just ordinary people doing what we can to help make a difference. We are B-Squad Dog Rescue!

Friends For Life has a mission that focuses not only on making sure that animals find their forever home, but that those in the community who may be struggling to keep their furry friends have someone to reach out to for resources such as medicine, food, supplies, and training. Seeing a dog or cat that has been written off as problematic go home with someone who understands and is willing to go the extra mile for their animal, knowing that they have a shelter who is willing and able to support them as well, is one of my favorite parts of Friends For Life. I started at Friends For Life as a way to keep busy and give back to my community during the height of the pandemic. It was exciting to see that they offered courses to volunteers to help them learn how to interact with behavioral animals, which was admittedly something I was looking for so that I could better understand some of the dogs and cats around me who struggled with anxiety. The shelter continues to provide ways for volunteers and staff to expand their education, such as pet CPR, animal first aid courses, and hands-on behavioral training. After completing several shifts in the shelter, I made a connection with one of the senior cats and looked to adopt. The process and interview was very thorough and I felt that the people I was talking to really cared for the animals in their shelter as well as the people who were adopting. I knew that the folks at Friends For Life would help if there were difficulties and do their best to ensure that my feline friend and I could stay connected.

Our wonderful Anatolian Shepherd Mix, Roscoe has been such a blessing in our lives. Having been adopted once, then getting loose and his first family not wanting him back, the staff at FWAC knew the right fit was out there waiting for him. Lucky us! The adoption center at Petsmart is so great. The staff there love all of the animals that pass through and the volunteers are there to help along the way.

The Humane Society of Utah is really good about reaching out to the community if they need help and the community always steps up because they know how valuable the work they do is. If there's a need for blankets, food, or any type of supplies and they mention the need on any of their social media accounts, their shelves are restocked by the end of the week. They also have the best ideas for fundraisers. From bingo nights, to galas and silent auctions the Utah Humane Society is very creative when it comes to raising money and it is how they keep up the valuable community support. Their social media team is quite good and creative. It's fun to see updates of dogs who have found their forever home and see how best to give support to the animals.

Robin has invested many years learning best practices to rescue dogs primarily from death row at high kill shelters through working with other rescues where Robin met fellow dog rescue advocate and friend, Tamara, and decided the most effective way to save even more dogs was to establish a new entity in Chittenden County and surrounding areas. Many people who personally know Robin and Tamara recognize their passion and dedication to the dogs. Today, we have an amazing team of professional, highly-dedicated volunteers who help us rescue from high kill shelters, provide safe environments with foster families/adopters, educate the community and advocate for animal rights. Our group is staffed entirely by volunteers and served by a board of directors. Our efforts are supported through donations, charity events, corporate/employee benefit tax deductible donation programs, and the generosity of animal lovers from within the community. Our rescue focus is exclusive to dogs. 100% of all funds received go directly towards saving dogs and are used strictly for this purpose to include shelter fees, boarding fees, medical bills, transport fees, food, supplies, all in support of our mission.

I have adopted 2 cats that I started out fostering as 4wk old kittens from them. They treat everyone like family and are amazing anytime you have any questions or concerns. We work with shelters and owners who cannot keep their pets and through extensive veterinary care and training, we rehabilitate them and place them in loving, forever homes where the animals will never again be abandoned. More than 30% of the animals we take in are special or medically needy and require more extensive and expensive care. In all we work with all ages, breeds, many species and all different types of humans too- treating each as an individual so they can find the life and love they deserve.
